I've gotten a bit behind due to the Fourth of July holiday -- but I should have Part 2 of the Rockwell Kent - Carl Ruggles story up soon. I've also been delayed due to further research resulting in my adding text and illustrations to Part 1 of this series. Those especially interested in this relationship might want to reread Part I with the new information and illustrations. The new text appears in BOLD. You'll find the link HERE. I'm spending this extra time on this topic because the more I delve into it the more  I begin to see the importance of this friendship.

After this story, here's my planned outline for the rest of the book.

     The Publication of Wilderness and the show of Kent's paintings.

       Olson's Trip to Vermont to stay with the Kents.

       The story of Olson's life.

       A summary of Kent's life from about 1921 to 1935.

       Kent's 1935 trip to Alaska, and the story of his mural.

        A summary of Kent's life until his death in 1971

While in Alaska the mail service was exceptionally slow and unreliable due to contract disputes between the U.S. Government and the steamship companies. His first book published in 1920 -- Wilderness: A Journal of Quiet Adventure in Alaska – was followed in 1924 with Voyaging Southward from the Strait of Magellan . These two books along with his art established Kent as the adventurous and masculine artist-writer – an image he encouraged and that contributed to his appeal to women.
