It was 100 years ago this month -- March of 1920 -- that Rockwell Kent began his rise to fame. This is when the New York exhibit of is Alaska paintings combined with the publication of his first book, Wilderness: A Journal of Quiet Adventure in Alaska. If you haven't already read this portion of the website, this might be a good time to do so. Begin with the link below and work you way along this multipart series.

In a few days I'll continue the series about Olga and her family, the Drexel-Dahlgrens.

  1. I am thrilled to find your blog about Rockwell Kent. My husband and I happen to have a rare edition of Rockwell Kent's "A Northern Christmas" written for his son Rockwell in 1918 during his time on Fox Island in Alaska. It contains illustrations of many of his beautiful pen and ink drawings. We found it in the Antique book section of our famous Powell's books in Portland, Oregon several years ago and we take it out each Christmas to read to our family. We would like to know more about it: how many were printed in the edition, was it an excerpt from Wilderness, which we now intend to read?
